Skincare & Vitamins

Autumn =  the new academic year in the beauty world.

As the temperature drops and the dark nights draw in, the time has come to revisit your skincare routine.

“Changing weather conditions are one of the biggest external factors that can exacerbate dry skin, so it can benefit hugely from a reshuffle of your skincare cabinet,” Balance Me co-founders, Rebecca and Clare Hopkins.

So what should you be doing?

Tone it down on the acids and retinols

As the change in weather can cause your skin to become drier and more sensitive it’s important to tone down on these products which can be a little aggressive and cause irritability to our skin when in this condition. Try using more gentle doses of these products along with a moisturizer afterwards:

Drunk Elephant | A-Passioni™ Retinol Cream | Boots | £52.70

This gentle retinol is is only a 1% vegan formula mixed with natural, light and air sensitive ingredients.

Up the oils

Cranking up the heating, to cold fresh air and hot showers, the constant change of temperatures this time of year can really affect the balance of moisture our skin is producing this can often result in dry, flaky skin. If you don’t already, bringing an oil into your skincare routine will nourish and hydrate the skin – don’t be afraid of these if you have oily skin too (we know it can sound like your worst nightmare) but this can be caused through dehydration of the skin so an oil will be your saviour!

Pai Skincare | The Light Fantastic Oil | £44

‘A feather-light face oil to calm, smooth and strengthen stressed skin. The triple threat formula helps to reduce the signs of visible irritation and tension, while high-performance Ceramides build long-term resilience against future irritation’.

Worship the Vitamin C

Losing your summer glow is a sad time in the year and unfortunately, we lack the natural Vitamin C in winter needed to maintain this… thankfully there are lots of products on the market to help us! Using Vitamin C based products not only protects us from them nasty external aggressors, it helps us to stimulate collagen for better moisture retention whilst brightening the skin at the same time.

Omoravicza | Daily Vitamin C Serum | £99

‘This milky serum provides essential daily protection against environmental aggressors, whilst stimulating the production of collagen for a more youthful-looking complexion. Dull, lifeless skin is revived, and skin appears even and luminous.’
